US PowerGrade

Power outages by state, ranked

41 states have enough utilities reporting to the federal government to rank honestly. Each figure is the median utility in that state, so one badly hit rural co-op cannot define a whole state. The US median is 3 hours without power per customer per year.

Why some states are missing

10 states and territories had fewer than 5 utilities file reliability data for 2025. A ranking of three utilities is not a ranking, so those states get no page rather than a misleading one. West Virginia is the clearest loss: its four reporting utilities average the worst outage time in the country, but four is not enough to rank a state.
